How to be a better writer

Image
Image by Amore Seymour from Pixabay So I took a 7 year break from writing and now I’m back, I want to be even better.  As you know I am blogging and writing and publishing eBooks. So I’m re-learning. Before I had so many ideas for writing,, I couldn’t stop. I burnt out after a 7 year journey. Now after a break and realising actually writing is my life. I have set boundaries so I don’t get burnt out again. For example, I still do other things I love such as watching TV and I have a range of hobbies. You can read about my hobbies on my hobbies blog:  https://melanietoyeshobbies.blogspot.com/?m=1 . I try and just write for a couple of hours a fortnight and then I take a break. I have a week off writing. I do however spend that week promoting on my social media to keep building an audience.  An audience is important it can either help you stay motivated to keep writing or it can make you stop altogether if no one is reading anything you are writing. Unfortunately I deleted m...

Create a plan of when to write

Image
Image by Seidenperle from Pixabay I don’t know about you but I require a routine of when to write. This helps me stay motivated and keeps me on track to achieving what I want in the writing world. It also hugely depends on my availability and what works for me and when. Back in the day before I stopped writing. I would write in every waking moment. I would write on my train ride to work, I would then write in my lunch break, and then again on the train ride home. I would write after dinner from 7pm often to late each night 10pm or 11pm. And then the day would start again and so I would write again!  Now, I am getting back into writing after a 7 year break. I first started slowly, just writing two hours each fortnight blogging. But then I had grand plans for blogging and this increased to three to four hours a fortnight.  After I published my first eBook upon my return of 7 years, “A journey of crocheting for beginner” available on Apple Books, Barnes and Noble, Kobo and Smash...

The process of writing

Image
Image by Karolina Grabowska from Pixabay Personally, I have very specific ways I write and it changes for different types of writing.  For example, for blog writing, I actually type directly into my phone into the blog post. I do have a laptop but I rarely use it for blog writing. Blog writing for me should be somewhat quick and can be written wherever I am. But I mostly write when I am at home. Even so, I still type directly into my mobile. I even include the pictures directly to my mobile in the blog post.  Blog writing should be easy, quick and fun.  Writing books, I write in pen in a book. This may seem strange but my very first novel, I wrote it using my PC and then the computer crashed and I nearly gave up on writing there and then. But I had a lovely friend who told me, it doesn’t matter what you lost. Make your book better than the first. So I did!  And ever since then I choose to write my first draft hand written in a book. So it doesn’t get lost. But I als...

Writing because it’s who I am

Image
Image by expresswriters from Pixabay So I have recently decided to get back into writing books. I took a 7 year break and now I’m back!  Just like any or many crocheting projects I have on, it hasn’t stopped me from also have many writing projects on the go. But let’s talk about me for a moment: I used to write professional for 7 years and then I had a 7 year break. Burn out was real and then I believed that may be writing wasn’t for me. I focused on craft to help me relax.  After the break, I started writing once a week to communicate to people. I started to go into the depths of my soul and bare things that were deep, in order to help others who were going through similar circumstances. It was the topic that I thought I wanted a career in. Then about a year in, I started blogging. I started with 10 blogs and wrote these blog posts each fortnight.  Two years in, I realised I didn’t want a career in said subject. I want a life in writing. I want to breathe it every secon...
